I read an article the other day in the news paper. The reporter was reviewing a book, but in fact was really reviewing the author who is a boomer. The reporter said that boomer’s think they ‘own’ aging and it is time they stop whining about getting old and the effects of getting old. This was based on the book that was based on the author’s aging – yes a boomer.
You know this really upset me and made me think.
I remember back when my Mum was in her 50’s, prior to knowing she had cancer, and she talked to me at length about the changes she was going through. The hot flashes, the fine lines on her face, the lack of muscle tone. This was back in the early 70’s. She was not a boomer.
So why would a reporter say that she thinks that boomer’s are attempting to say they “own” aging.
Well, aging happens in every generation. You can try as you might to fight it, do surgery to make you look better, but it doesn’t change a thing.
So, no, boomers are not the first generation to fight aging. It has been going on for a long time. We just live longer now so trying to fight aging is more prevalent.
My opinion is this reporter needs to get a grip. Even she will face aging as we all do – right?!
