How to Remain Physically Active as You Enter the Golden Years of Life
Many boomers may find it difficult to exercise, either because of lack of time or because of health issues. As we are aging exercise, in some form, does become a priority for our overall health.
I exercised all my young life. I exercised religiously as the years went on, though I was more into power walking in my 30’s than sit ups and took up Tai Chi as well. Then I started my own business 12 years ago, a web design company, and, yes, I sit at the computer all day. Add a few surgeries in there and exercise, not so much anymore.
I started thinking about my lack of exercise. I have been noticing I have less energy, more aches, weird feelings in my legs, etc. So I thought it was time I get back into some form of exercising.
If you have been inactive for a long period of time, like years, you may want to start out with just stretching. One of the best practices to start with, in my opinion, is Tai Chi. Years ago I did both Qigong and Tai Chi, and I started doing Tai Chi again just a few months ago. I love how it makes me feel both mentally and physically.
Please note, these are only my suggestions. You should always consult a doctor first before you start any exercise program. I would love to hear your experience with it as I continue doing Tai Chi as well!
